Simulation training scenario from the Alfred Hospital. Scenario Overview: This scenario was designed in the middle of the COVID19 outbreak to prepare staff for managing these sick patients when they arrive in the ED. The case is a previously healthy 40yo man who has returned from Italy 10 days ago and has had 5 days of URTI symptoms. He has been admitted and cared for overnight and is awaiting an isolation bed on the ward. At handover the decision has been made to intubate him as he has progressively become more hypoxic despite HNFO being applied. The team must ensure safe donning and doffing of PPE and safely intubate this patient avoiding contaminating themselves or other team members.
